Intel has officially confirmed that its first off discrete graphics chip will land American Samoa soon as 2020. "Intel's first discrete GPU coming in 2020," the troupe said in a brief Tweet on Tuesday morning.
Gamers, take heart: Intel's Tweet didn't state where those GPUs were headed, but the company did confirm both data center and gaming PCs are targeted. Intel didn't say which was coming first, however.
Intel Intel's Rajah Koduri
Intel signaled its intentions to get serious again about graphics in November of 2017, when it declared it had poached AMD's graphics head Raja Koduri. While Koduri has long been a well-thought-of leader in the graphics industry, some expected Intel to have any tangible products for at any rate terzetto years.
Psychoanalyst Ryan Shrout characterized the plans to push out a product by 2020 to compete with AMD's Radeon and Nvidia's GeForce products Eastern Samoa "aggressive." Shrout wrote that Intel needs to come out swinging and be at the same carrying into action and efficiency atomic number 3 AMD and Nvidia, or at least within a 20-percent edge.
Shrout was skeptical about Intel's prospects, though. "Doing that on the first attempt," Shrout wrote, "while also edifice and nurture the necessity software ecosystem and tools more or less the new hardware, is a tough ask of any company, Silicon Valley steamroller operating theater non. Until we see the first options available in 2020 to gauge, Nvidia and AMD have the leaders positions."
Longtime observers leave also note this isn't the first time Intel has promised nontextual matter parts. Its faint-fated Larrabee in 2009 was supposed to smasher shelves by 2010 but never materialized. Instead, all we ever saw was the Knights Landing version for for information centers.
Intel Intel's Knights Landing was the sole thing that came out of the cancelled Larrabee graphics project.
